[French Air and Space Force Ace is the protagonist of the story] Dewoitine D.520 was formalized as the main fighter of the French Air and Space Force in 1939 when World War II broke out. Although the number of deployments was small at the time, it fought hard as the only aircraft that could compete with the Messer Schmidt Bf109.
