Rommel's Desert Warriors
In preparation for the invasion of Malta, an elite parachute brigade was formed under the command of Colonel Ramcke. Following the cancellation of the operation in July 1942, Ramcke's brigade was deployed to North Africa as reinforcements. From October to November the same year with the main German forces retreating from the El Alamein front, the Ramcke brigade found themselves cut off. Without a means of transport, they were able to ambush an Allied Supply Unit and confiscated their vehicles and supplies and traveled 350km through the desert to return to their fellow soldiers.
