Trend Setter
The Lotus 25 was a revolutionary entry in the world of Formula One, the Team Lotus-run vehicle being the first car to move away from the then-standard tubular steel space frame and employ a lightweight aluminum monocoque. The design was incredibly economical on space, left and right D-shaped sections plus front/rear bulkheads surrounding the driver's seat and leaving just enough room for them to fit in a position akin to laying in a bath, leading to the frame's being dubbed a "bathtub" type. Powered by the 1.5-liter V8 engine supplied by Coventry Climax, the 25 took three victories in the hands of Jim Clark during its debut 1962 season, the next year winning seven out of ten races to make Clark into a dominant champion at the pinnacle of motorsport.
